Gaming needs its own Sundance

Ready for a dose of business-related reality to go with your game announcements and games-culture goodness? Then head right over to Dawdle CEO Sachin Agarwal’s brilliant GameDaily piece, in which he argues the need for a place for indie developers to sell their wares to publishers, much like the Sundance film festival.

Agarwal acknowledges the IGF (Independent Games Festival) and PAX’ PAX 10 as good baby steps, but argues that we really need a big event completely dedicated to showing off indie titles, allowing talented developers to be courted by publishers, and fostering “good old-fashioned” bidding wars for deserving gems. This sort of environment will foster greater creativity, originality, and diversity of gameplay in our industry, and it could be that shot in the arm we really need in a sequel-soaked gaming landscape.
