Sony delays Life with PlayStation release

Life with PlayStation

When Sony Computer Entertainment head honcho Kaz Hirai announced Life with PlayStation at the end of June 2008, PS3 owners expected the service to be available by the end of August 2008 after a post was made on the PlayStation Blog. The end of August is here and Life with PlayStation is still nowhere to be found. Now it seems we have to wait a little longer while Sony sorts out more paperwork.

Life with PlayStation is going to be a free service that can be accessed from the XMB (Xross Media Bar). It will deliver streaming news and weather updates while showing a 3D representation of the Earth. You can check the weather conditions for any part of the world and the globe will spin to that location. There’s even the option of listening to music stored on the PS3 hard drive while you get your news and weather fix.

Sony also announced today (August 29, 2008) that Life with PlayStation would be combined with its Folding@home project. That means whenever you access Life with PlayStation, Folding@home will be running alongside it in the background. Imagine being able to check the news and contribute to finding cures for diseases at the same time all without leaving your home. The future is now.
