Gamecock makes like an arcade at PAX 08

gamertell gamecock logoI have to admire the way Gamecock set up its booth at PAX 08. It was enclosed with transparent plastic and in very low light, like arcades of the ‘80s. To complete the illusion of a video arcade, players would even stand up as they played the game in arcade-style casings. Here is a list of the games they had available to play:

Legendary: I’ve been seeing a lot of ads for this one and I finally got a chance to see what it was about. You play as a thief who tries to rob Pandora’s box from a museum, only to end up opening it. It releases all these legendary creatures like gargoyles and werewolves, and the player must stop the world from being torn apart in this first person shooter. It looks pretty cool as you can behead opponents and it should be available for the Xbox and PS3 in October 2008.

Mushroom Men: Somewhat cute little platform/RPG where the player plays a mushroom man involved in a war between edible and poisonous mushrooms. The Rise of the Fungi is the DS version, and should be available in November 2008. The Spore Wars should be available in November 2008 for the Wii.

Pirates vs. Ninjas. This Xbox Live game answers that age-old question with a few robots and zombies thrown in.

Velvet Assassin: For this game, I had to wait for a special demo, and it won’t be out until the beginning of next year for the Xbox 360 and the PC. The basic premise is that the protagonist Violet is a female assassin in World War II. It is a first-person shooter that has a definite Bioshock influence and I will report more on this later.

All in all, I felt Gamecock pulled out all the stops with their booth, and I look forward to playing some of these new releases.
