Even though the DS version of Gauntlet is a little bit delayed, that’s okay. From what it sounds like, Eidos Interactive’s rerelease of Midway’s classic game will be worth it, once it comes out on October28, 2008. The main focus of the remake will be on multiplayer gameplay. Players will be looking at the action from an eagle-eye perspective and using the elf, valkyrie, warrior and wizard to annihilate foes.
The DS version of Gauntlet will support both local wireless and Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection play among four players. As you and your friends fight through the 40 different areas, you can either assist or attempt to best one annother. So far the announced competative modes are Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Treasure Hoard. The game will also have Voiceover IP (VoIP), like Advance Wars: Days or Ruin or Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, so you can talk to your friends while fighting.
The only feature that hasn’t been confirmed with Gauntlet for the DS is single card multiplayer. If this game has the ability to allow four players to play with one card, then it is going to be a “must-buy.” I have a feeling it won’t though, due to all the multiplayer options. Even so, it still sounds like a great addition to the DS library.
